IB Exam format practice

IB Oral-4/4/4

IB/AP Writing formats
  • We will use and practice these formats in class to align with the themes of the units. But you will need to practice more. I suggest you practice one more format a week on your own. I will gladly review and correct anything you turn in extra. Review the information I gave you or you find in order to write in the correct format.
  • All text type formats must be written in the correct "French" style. If you do not do this, you automatically lose lots of points for the activity. (After all this is an expression of being open-minded to multiple global perspectives.) These test types vary (some greatly) to formats you are used to writing in the United States. This means also the way the format looks like such as exact placement of dates, openings, closings, style such as brochure, etc,)
  • You will also need to be able to analyze a writing prompt in order to choose the correct text type. It is not always obvious.

All French students need to be able to write the following text type formats "the French way" for the exam:
-un journal intime/blog
-un article
-une lettre officielle (une lettre de reclamation (letter of complaint)/candidature/a un auteur)
-une lettre a un ami
-un discours (a speech)
-le guide de recommandations, la brochure
-le recit d'imagination
-le compte-rendu (summary)
-une declaration à la police
-une critique d'un film/livre
-une anecdote
-une page internet

The declaration to the police rarely shows up. An anecdote is a funny story. The compte-rendu is a factual account of an event such as a school trip to Cambodia for humanitarian work. The recit d'imagination is the task where you write part of a story based on starting sentences given to you by the question.

AP Test Format
